Dreambert and Bedsmith, two beings of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar city, feeling lost and confused. Just as panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He suggests that they must have passed out while watching TV the night before, but before he can explain more, the situation gets even stranger. A creature named Starlow, a Star Sprite species, arrives, insisting that she is their friend. She says that they had plans to hang out, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander through the city, acting as if they don’t recognize either their surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As he leads them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to reassure them. Dreambert and Bedsmith, however, remain disoriented and unable to comprehend their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day progresses, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned, at first thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, she begins to worry that something is seriously wrong with their memories. By the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty deepens and she wonders if there is something more behind their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house where they first woke up, and Wonky – who still claims to be their father – gives them a bed that seems unfamiliar to them. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they drift off to sleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories looms unanswered as they drift off into a restless sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
